Melissa Skerrit hands over school supplies to student ahead of new academic year

Roseau, Dominica: Melissa Skerrit – Minister of Housing of Dominica handed over school supplies to the students under the “Back to School Program.” The students who will enter into the new academic year met with her and participated in different activities at a small fair.
She hosted the program through her Melissa Skerrit Foundation and extended gratitude to the team and many supporters who helped them to make it successful. She encouraged the students and interacted with the young minds to help them on their journey to greatness.
The new academic session has kickstarted on September 2, 2024, with the end of the summer vacation. Melissa Skerrit noted,” I am so proud of our nation’s beautiful young minds and will continue to do my small part in helping them on their journey to greatness.”
The program was held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Peebles Park in Roseau for the students of several communities across Dominica. More than 276 backpacks filled with all the essential school supplies have been distributed among the students by Melissa Skerrit.
The Back-to-School Program is hosted by Melissa Skerrit Foundation every year to support the education sector and encourage the students about their studies. The foundation provides not only temporary support, but also offers donations, scholarships, tuition and other help to the thousands of students in Dominica.
Founded in 2016, Melissa Skerrit Foundation has been working to improve the lives of student and the citizens of Dominica in general. Since its establishment, the foundation has launched several initiatives to address the needs of the community and enhance society.
The program such as Single Mother Initiatives and Hurricane Preparedness Initiatives have been launched to provide proper care to the vulnerable section of the society.
Recently, the foundation hosted the “Women’s Symposium” to empower the women to make then learn new skills and enhance their works.
The back-to-school program was launched to encourage the students for their new term and pursue their educational goals in an efficient manner. With each passing year, the Program grows in impact as the supporters have been joining the foundation to enhance the power of education.
