St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Terrance Drew hosted annual back-to-school fair for students at Constituency #8 on Sunday ahead of the new academic year. He spent time with children and parents for the new school session and encouraged them about the significance of education.

He welcomed students and cheered them up for their studies in the new 2024/2025 academic year which will kickstart on Monday. During the event, PM Drew also handed over school supplies and other gifts to the students, while encouraging them for their future endeavours.

On his social media, he also expressed gratitude to those who contributed and made the event a great success. He also urged students to be kind, respectful towards their teachers and work hard for the future.

PM Drew noted that the fair is significant for bringing community togetherness and fostering supporting environment for education across St Kitts and Nevis. He expressed delight in interacting with students and their parents, marking their smiling faces as the symbol of their joyful hearts for the upcoming future possibilities.

Notably, the back-to-school fair is being hosted every year in St Kitts and Nevis through the collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aiming to enhance the interest of the students towards the studies.

This year, the opening ceremony of the fair was held last week under the theme- “Transforming Education through Self Renewal: Holistic Partnerships Digital Solutions.” The ceremony invited the students, teachers and their parents at St Kitts Marriott Resort where Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanely extended salutatory remarks.

He also applauded the teachers for their exceptional contribution and referred them as the unsung heroes of St Kitts and Nevis. Even, the Ministry of Education also partnered with the St. Kitts-Nevis- Anguilla National Bank and created a Teachers’ Supply Debit Card.

In the card, the teachers will be given EC$300 annually for their contribution towards the education sector.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also announced several projects for the education sector and asserted that those projects are aimed at bringing modern facilities for the education of the students.

Earlier, he outlined that hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested to install new infrastructure in the Cayon High School for the new 2024/2025 academic year. He said that the renovation work has also been laid out by the government to provide proper accessibility, modern facilities and safety to the students and teachers at the school campus.

In addition to that, new Basseterre High School has also been launched by the government of St Kitts and Nevis after they come to the office. Currently, the discussion on the design and coordination is underway and in the coming time, the construction of the school is expected to commence in St Kits and Nevis.
