Caribbean athletes clean sweep in the women’s 400m dash at the World Athletics Continental Silver Tour in Germany. The countries of the region have won top three positions in the women’s 400m sprinting.
The first and gold medal came from Jamaica as athlete Stephenie Ann McPherson secured victory by clocking a time of 50.65 seconds. The second position was secured by Williams Sada from Barbados in the women’s 400m and clocked a time of 50.67.
The third position was won by Shafiqua Maloney who finished the World Athletics in third position by securing a time of 50.75. Three players emerged victorious in the event and caught the attention of the audience from across the globe.
Maloney expressed pleasure and added that she participated in the World Athletics Continental Silver Tour at the Oak Stadium. “I ran the 400m, I finished with a time of 50:75. It was very exciting finish,” she noted.
Netizens expressed pleasure and extended wishes to the winners with the congratulations remarks. One added,”Proud of you keep it up girl! Great job, Love it! Keep challenging yourself.”
Gold Medalist Ann McPherson has remained five-time World Championship 400-metre finalist and represented Jamaica at several global occasion. During the Tokyo Olympic Games, she recorded personal best times in the heats and semis, missed out on a medal in the final.
She placed in fourth position in 49.1 seconds. In July 2022, she participated in the women’s 400m and placed fourth position. Ann McPherson has also qualified for the finals in the event of the mixed 4x400m realy as one of the fastest qualifiers.
She again finished fourth in their heat and ended her campaign on August 2, 2024.
Sada Williams from Barbados was named Female Athlete of the Year at the BOA/IGT Spirit of Resilience Awards. She also won the Gold Medal in the women’s 400m dash at Gyulaitstvan Memorial 2023 by clocking a time of 50.34.
