Olympic Gold Medalist Julien Alfred won silver medal at the women’s 100m in the Diamond League meet on Thursday.

Castries, Saint Lucia: Olympic Gold Medalist Julien Alfred won silver medal at the women’s 100m in the Diamond League meet on Thursday. She clocked 10.88 seconds in the meet which has been taking place in Zurich, Switzerland, marking her first win after Paris achievement.
The Gold medal was won by USA’s most renowned sprinter- Sha’carri Richardson with 10.84 seconds and fumed the stage with old battles. The stadium at the Switzerland was overbooked as people were seen excited about the race between these two Olympic champions.
Julien Alfred defeated Sha’carri Richardson in the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 100m and the 200m events and secured Gold and Silver respectively. She gained massive applaud across the globe for her performance for becoming the first athlete to win Olympic medal for her small island country- Saint Lucia.
At the Paris Games, Alfred won gold medal by clocking a time of 10.72 second ahead of Richardson with 10.87 second on August 3, 2024. Both athletes are well-decorated by the audience and their countries as they are seen as the fastest women in the world.
The final of the Diamond League will be held in Brussels on October 13 and 14 in which both Julien Alfred and Sha’carri Richardson will participate.
Julien Alfred managed to secure one more title in her winning streaks ahead of her homecoming in Saint Lucia. The country and its people have been preparing for the grand welcome ceremony as she will return on September 24, 2024.
A comprehensive program will be hosted to celebrate her Olympic victory including dance, music, motorcade rally and concerts. She was the first-ever athlete to win the medal for Saint Lucia at the Olympic and ended the medal drought for the country.
The small island nation country had become the matter of discussion after her victory in the Olympics as the world was stunned by her performance. During the period, Saint Lucia became the most searched keyword on Google as people wanted to explore about Julien Alfred and her country.
The experts have also stated that the victory of Alfred at the global stage will boost the tourism sector to greater heights in the coming time. In addition to that, she will also be featured in the series of Netflix named “Sprint” which will showcase her journey of becoming the fastest women in the world from the simple girl of the small island nation.
She also expressed pleasure and said that it was no pressure and noted,”I just wanted to remain focused and do my best and represent my country at the global stage.”
Wishes for Julien Alfred
Several wishes have been poured on Julien Alfred for her Silver achievement at Diamond League. Prime Minister Philip J Pierre extended greetings to Alfred and noted,” Julien Alfred has done it again. This time with an impressive second place finish in the Women’s 100m at the Weltklasse Zürich 2024, Diamond League.”
He also invited people to join in to congratulate her on yet another achievement and making the country proud. PM Pierre added,” We look forward to your homecoming Julien and celebrating all your achievements with you. Congratulations once again.”
Ernest Hilaire– Minister of Tourism added,”Your efforts are not going unnoticed. From a small community called monkey town to the world. Congratulations on another very good performance.”
Now, the returning for Julien Alfred will be hosted on the massive scale as series of activities will be hosted to celebrate her achievements.
