InterCaribbean launches customised aircraft Engraved ‘Spirit of Grenada’

Grenada: The Government of Grenada unveiled a custom-painted aircraft in a ceremony at Maurice Bishop International Airport on August 4, 2024. The event showcased an aircraft by InterCaribbean airlines adorned with Grenada’s flag on its tail and “Spirit of Grenada” engraved on its nose.
The inter-Caribbean aircraft is an ATR-500 and it is registered as VQ-TGD. This collaboration among the inter-Caribbean airlines and Grenada marks a significant milestone for Grenada’s tourism sector.
The event on Sunday was attended by Prime minster Dickon Mitchell of Grenada and several others including Lennox J Andrews, the Minister of economic development, agriculture and lands, Marine resources and cooperatives along with Minister of Tourism, Adrain A Thomas.
The chairman of Grenada’s Tourism Authority Randall Doland and CEO Petra Roach were also there to witness the event. Along with them, the members of Inter-Caribbean including Chairman and Founder, Lyndon Gardiner CEO Trevor Sadler and COO Craig Chappel also attended the event.
The Prime minister in response to the newly developed aircraft stated the new look to be the first in the region while noting “we are proud to be the trailblazers or rather tail blazers.”
“As we welcome this new brand, we leave our mark in the skies and embrace the future of aviation in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique” he added.
The aircraft has been reported to be operated along with only Grenadian crew members. The crew includes Captain Therron Charles, First Officer Andrew Hopkin, and Flight Attendant Brittney Patterson St. Clair.
Notably, this new initiative will help Grenada drastically in improving the nation’s economy and the tourism industry. The PM while addressing also noted that this initiative although will help improve Grenada’s economy and tourism but it is a lot more as it is an opportunity to provide people of Grenada with better mobility and comfort.
The debut aircraft ‘Spirit of Grenada’ has been launched on a crucial time as it celebrated Grenada’s 50th anniversary and prepares to celebrate the SpiceMas, one of the Grenada’s biggest cultural festivals.
Netizens are actively showcasing their love for the new project under PM Mitchell’s post. DrJosyln Peters, a Facebook user stated, “We are incredibly excited to be leading the way in civil aviation. This initiative will significantly contribute to our economy, and we are honoured to be a part of it in our tri-island state. We look forward to the potential for reduced airline ticket costs due to this groundbreaking movement.”
