Caribbean women makes clean sweep in the Women’s 100m final at 2024 World U20 Athletics Championships. All three medals were clinched by the regional and etched history at the global stage.
The Gold medal was won by Alana Reid from Jamaica who recorded the season best time of 11.17 seconds. She became the first Jamaican to win the medal for the country and opened the medal tally with Gold.
The silver medal in the championship was won by Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands. She captured the second spot in the women’100 m by completing the sprinting in 11.27 seconds.
Bronze also came from Caribbean after Kishawana Niles of Barbados won the third spot in the women’s 100m final. She completed the podium at the World Championships by recording the time of 11.37 seconds.
The clean sweep of Caribbean garnered the attention of public across the globe as the small island region has come so far in the sports sector.
All there were standing at podium and captured the limelight by posing together after receiving the medal. Their photo at the track and field captured the attention of the public and make them react towards the situation.
Netizens lauded the development of the countries in the sports sector and said that the girls have been enhancing their capabilities.
People expressed delight and noted that the girls have shown prowess at the sports stage and make their home countries proud.
In the recently held Paris Olympics 2024, Caribbean region have showcased remarkable performances. Countries such as Dominica and Saint Lucia have brought end to their medal drought at the Olympic stage and won their first medals.
Both girls Thea Lafond and Julien Alfred have created the history by becoming Gold Medalists in Triple Jump and Women’100 m respectively.
Besides this, Jamaica also won Gold at shot put and Grenada won two bronze medals in Decthalon and Javelin Throw.
The governments of countries have also arranged welcome receptions for these athletes and congratulated them for their grant milestones.
The U20 World Championships is underway in Lima, Peru and will run through August 31, 2024.
