St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Terrance Drew visits the JNF General Hospital to check for updates regarding the ongoing construction work at the hospital.

The government of the island nation inaugurated the construction of a new MRI unit at the hospital in June in order to bolster the healthcare facilities provided to residents.

PM Drew, during his visit also checked the changes made to the entrance hall, following which he assessed the newly installed electroencephalogram (EEG) machine at the hospital. The PM was then informed about its usage, applications, and its criteria for detecting brain diseases.

The EEG machine will focus on detecting and assessing the electrical activities in the brain. The EEG is successful in diagnosing diseases such as Brain Tumours, strokes, inflammation, and many others. EEG also plays a vital role in examining coma and anaesthetic patients.

The installation of the new EEG machine and the construction of the MRI building will play a crucial role in the nation’s healthcare advancement,” one of the members of the health team noted.

During his visit to the construction site, PM Terrance Drew took updates on the ongoing work through the concerned authorities present there. Following him were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Curtis Martin, and the complete health team.

He then thanked them for their presence while noting the continuing progression the health sector is making to provide best facilities to the residents.

The Prime Minister said, “Some challenges remain but we are determined to continue our progressive work on behalf of our beloved people.”

The now constructing MRI building will be accessible to everyone across the country. The Prime Minister in regards to this noted that, “We will be working to maintain the cost of the machine as low as possible and make sure that it stays accessible to everyone.”

“No one will be turned back for financial reasons” he added.

Notably, the federation recently also shed light on their plans to bring a CT scan machine to the country and planning to introduce new climate-smart hospitals to provide relief to the residents during the phases of disasters.

The new CT scan machine has been aimed to be commissioned by September. The machine is noted to be a 125-slice, indicating that it will be able to diagnose heart and other cardiovascular diseases.

These initiatives by the government to provide optimal health care to the residents underscore their commitment to fostering a sustainable and health-focused environment for the residents.
