Protest erupts in St Catherine over death of Spanish Town Hospital worker

Jamaica: Residents of Harkers Hall blocked roads on Monday in reaction to the killing of Spanish Town Hospital worker, Lenroy York. His corpse was found with multiple stab wounds in an abandoned building on Sunday, August 30.

According to reports, York was attending a community dance when he was searched and taken away by the police. His body was later discovered inside an abandoned building.

The residents blocked the main road on Monday morning by placing refrigerators and other objects on the road. These roadblocks caused disruption to motorists traveling through Harkers Hall between Bog Walk, Glengoffe, and Above Rocks.

It also affected normal public movement and business activity in the surrounding areas.

The facts surrounding York's death have not been clearly established yet.

Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St Catherine North Police Division, said that police would conduct a visit to the area after the disturbances.

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has also launched a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
