Dominica tourism sector flourishes with record-breaking arrivals, new developments
The Commonwealth of Dominica records a significant visitor arrival of 4,25,155 tourists during the 2023/2024 financial year.

Dominica: The Ministry of tourism records a significant visitor arrival of 4,25,155 tourists in the 2023/2024 financial year. This substantial achievement by the government of Dominica sets hopes for a much more successful 2024/2025 season.
France, the West Indies, and the USA emerged as the biggest contributors to this achievement, as the Ministry of Tourism noted an overall 18% increase in tourist arrivals from these countries.
These initiatives marks as a stepping stone in Dominica’s tourism advancement as it experienced a considerable hike of 13% increase over the 2022/2023 session and a 15% surge over last six years. The government of Dominica has also initiated new projects in an effort to bolster the tourism sector of the island nation.
CABLE CAR PROJECT
The government has been actively working on a cable car project, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
This cable car project, which is currently ongoing in the Roseau Valley, is expected to be the world’s longest cable car. The work is underway on this project as a total of 200 employees have been deployed to work over 15 towers.
“This initiative is crucial as it is a part of the overall vision of the government to increase the number of different activities available to be experienced in the nature isle” Dr Irving Mclntyre, the finance minister for Dominica stated during the budget presentation for fiscal year 2024/2025.
CHAMPAGNE BEACH PROJECT
Apart from this, the ministry has also invested $1.7 million in total for the development of new reception facility at Champagne Beach. This effort to enhance visitor experience at one of the most tourist friendly places in Pointe Michel aims to bring significant profit in future.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project was held recently on 11th July 2024 and it emphasizes on providing a relaxing and enjoyable experience to the tourists. The facility upon completion, is expected to include special places for vendors and tour operators.
It will also focus on creating more green spaces, and dedicated areas for a restaurant, bar, spa services, and other activities. The reception facility will also include modern spa centre, locker facility, changing rooms, and more all in order to enhance the visitor experience.
The tourism sector of the island nation is one of the most crucial one as it contributes most to the country’s economy. Notably, Dominica has also been applauded by several awards and recognitions for its tourism including Reader’s Digest 20 Best Honeymoon Destinations, BBC’s 10 most sustainable Travel Destinations to visit in 2024, NewYork Times’ 52 Greatest Places to Travel in 2024 and Travel + Leisure 50 best places to travel.
