Rajindra Campbell leads Jamaica to three podium finishes in Rovereto

Jamaica: Rajindra Campbell led Jamaica’s success at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting in Rovereto, Italy, where he clinched the men’s shot put competition with a throw of 22.17 metres.

He finished ahead of Payton Otterdahl from the United States, who recorded 21.81m, while third place was secured by Italian athlete Zane Weir with a throw of 21.17m. The victory added to another strong season for Jamaica’s national record holder.

The second podium position for Jamaica came from Romaine Beckford who managed to win silver in the men’s high jump. The Commonwealth Games champion jumped 2.22m and shared second place with Japanese competitor Tomohiro Shinno.

The winner of the event was Italy’s Manuel Lando, who jumped to 2.25m, which was his season’s best. Raymund Richards of Jamaica came in sixth place, having cleared 2.16m.

Jamaica had another podium finish in the women’s 100m race. Sabrina Dockery crossed the finish line in 11.25 seconds, placing behind America’s Gabrielle Thomas (winner in 11.02) and Austria’s Christania Williams (11.18).

Kadrian Goldson was fourth in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.12 seconds. Bayanda Walaza from South Africa came first in a meeting record of 9.91 seconds.

Kirani James from Grenada achieved the medal in the men’s 400 meters. This former world and Olympic champion ran a 45.11second and came in third place. Christopher Morales Williams from Canada was the winner in 44.64, and Daniel Segers from Belgium was second in 45.04.

Campbell’s win made the Jamaican achievement in Rovereto, followed by two more medals from Beckford and Dockery.
