Thea Lafond awarded $10,000 from National Bank of Dominica

Dominica: The Olympic gold medallist Thea Lafond received a warm welcome from employees at National Bank Dominica and receives an EC$10,000 reward money for creating history at the Paris Olympic stage.

Upon her victory at the Sports biggest event globally, she was awarded with many rewards, titles, and more by the government of Dominica. These efforts by the authorities are applauded as ‘Well Deserved’ by the netizens in light of her Olympic triumph.

The National Bank shared a glimpse of the athlete’s visit to the bank over their official social media account and noted that “We proudly rewarded Thea Lafond-Gadson with EC$10,000 for every meter of her incredible gold medal jump.”

The authorities further stated that this gesture has been undertaken to address the outstanding performance and highlight the young talent ultimately fostering national pride.

“We are thrilled about what the future holds as we continue to support and celebrate her journey,” they added.

Apart from receiving a reward prize from the bank, the 30-year-old athlete was notably also welcomed to her home nation with grand celebrations and offered great honours for her achievements.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced Thea Lafond as the new Ambassador of Sports and awarded her with a cash prize of $400,000. She also received diplomatic passports for her and her husband along with a piece of land dedicated to her in Warner.

She is also set to receive The Dominica Award of Honour during the Independence Ceremony along with a new Track and Field Complex to be named by her name upon completion.

Notably, these accolades presented to the athlete are being highly applauded by citizens on social media and they are calling it a well-deserved win by the athlete.

One of the users named Petro Labadie stated, “Well done NBD, the interest rates are going towards a worthy cause. We are indeed so very proud of our golden lady Thea Lafond Gadson. Some more financial institutions should follow suit.”

She highlighted the interest rates received by the bank to be used up for a worthy cause and stated Thea as Golden Lady.

“This is excellent corporate social responsibility by NBD Dominica. Congratulations to the Board, Management, and Marketing team,” stated Alexander Stephenson, while noting the initiative by the authorities as a good one.

Another user said, “Very Happy to see that. This will motivate young athletes that hard work will be paid off. Congrats.”

Faustin Baron Burnette Serah on social media stated, “That’s was a well-deserved package for now and futuristic dream. Thea OUR ATHLETIC QUEEN,” highlighting the victory and achievements as ‘Well Deserved’.
