Dominica to hand over 16 new climate-resilient homes in Woodford Hill

Dominica: Sixteen families in Woodford Hill will receive the keys to new three-bedroom climate-resilient homes on Friday, September 11, as the Government of Dominica continues its national housing programme aimed at providing safe and resilient housing for communities across the island.

The announcement for the handover ceremony came from the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit. The Minister has announced that the handover ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 3:30 PM.

The Minister invited members of the general public as officials for the Welcome Home Ceremony. The government has been delivering modern resilient homes to people of communities across Dominica,

Most recently, the government of Dominica provided 11 homes to families in the Canefield East Community. The government aims to provide over 215 modern and resilient homes to nine communities in Dominica.

The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit announced the handover ceremony for homes in Woodford Hill during his press conference on September 9. The Prime Minister also added that the families will be getting three bedroom homes during the handover.

Additionally, the government of Dominica also seeks to expand their housing programme to include support for repairs. The government has confirmed that they will prioritize families who are in greatest need for support.

The officials have confirmed that the housing programmes of the government go beyond handovers of constructed houses. The government is also placing significant focus on renovations and retrofits for vulnerable households.

The officials have also shared that the government seeks to provide 5,000 housing solutions to vulnerable families under the national resilience framework.

The handover ceremony which is scheduled for Friday, September 11 is a significant step in the direction of fulfilling this mandate.
