Jamaica men and women clean sweep in 4x100m relay at Lima 2024, win Gold

Jamaica: Jamaica clean sweep in the 4x100m relay category at the U20 World Junior Championship 2024. Both men and women secured victory and won Gold in the game, creating history in Lima 2024.

Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m team featured Shanoya Mikalia Douglas, Alliah Baker, Briana Campbell, and Alana Reid brought glory to the country. While, Jamaica’s men, featuring Jace Witter, Gary Card, Nyrone Wade, and Deandre Daley also won second gold at the championship.

The women’s team created history and recorded the second-fastest time of 43.49 seconds in the history of Jamaica. They are behind the only world record of 42.58 seconds that was set on April 17, 2022.

With these victories, the team managed to clinch fourth position in the medal table by winning four gold and one bronze medal. The top three position was won by United States, Ethiopia and the Republic of China respectively.

The third gold medal came from Kerrica Hill who secured victory at the World U20 Championship in Lima and retained her 100m hurdles title in 12.99 seconds. The first Gold for Jamaica was won by Alana Reid who captured the victory in the Women’s 100m final at the championship.

Jamaican athletes expressed pleasure and noted that the victory is for their country and its people as they supported them a lot. Deandre Daley from men’s team said that the victory is for his fans and noted, ”This one is for our fans at homes as it had come after the setback from the individual 100,”

Alana Reid was lauded for her great performance in the game as she secured two Gold for Jamaica and created history from being the small island nation. She posed great threat to Australia’s Jessica Milat in the relay race and won with great efforts.

Reid appreciated her team and said that this has become possible with the great efforts made by the team. She said,”The key to this race was to give our best and perform well for our country and I know, that I woudl just run to the line once I got to the baton, So it was just for us to come out here and do our best.”
