Grenada: The Martineau Family- a famous building of the construction of traditional wooden boats has been drastically damaged by the passage of Hurricane Beryl in Grenada. The building has also remained a great tourist as it showcased the entire construction process of the wooden boats.
Travellers from across the globe, especially children, visit the village of Windward where the building is situated to learn about the process of the construction. It was considered as one of the tourist spots in Grenada as the stay-over arrivals used to visit the place for more exposure to new things.
However, the passage of the Beryl in June 2024 has taken essential tourist spot from Grenada by destroying it. Due to the strong winds, the building has been moved from its original place as Beyl took it from the beachfront and landed her in the road, causing much damage in the process.
Beryl caused massive destruction in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique and cost the livelihoods of their citizens. People from different sectors including Agriculture, Tourism, Daily Wagers and others have faced massive loss in their business due to the passage of the Hurricane.
It has caused soil erosion, destruction of the new plantation and devastation of the buildings and homes, making people restart their livelihoods. Now, the country has been looking to restart and revive from the effects of the natural calamity, but it is taking time for the recovery.
Climate Change is the real cause behind all such situations as the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season cause such issues every year in the small island nation. Without even contributing 0.1% to the eruption of the carbon footprints, the countries have been struggling with the issue of climate change which is the real problem.
The calls have been made for climate action, but the developed world is busy discussing other issues, perhaps not ready to take responsibility for the issues.
