IPL 2025 suspended mid-game as border tensions spark emergency evacuation.

The most-watched Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended temporarily for one week ahead of the playoff due to the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. This has been confirmed by BCCI (The Board of Control for Cricket in India) through a statement released recently.

A match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was also called off in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh after Pakistan launched an attack with eight missiles in major regions of India. The stadium was vacated with immediate effect in the middle of the match as the teams played the match of almost 10 overs. Now, the IPL, which has reached its final stage as the teams at the top of the table, have been preparing for the playoffs. As per the BCCI, the suspension is temporary as the decision for resumption will be taken in the coming times.

BCCI noted that the suspension will remain in effect until the tension between the two countries have settled. Notably, a total of 16 matches are still pending including 12 league games and four playoff matches. The finals of the tournament were scheduled to be held on May 23, 2025.

After the calling of the match, the BCCI arranged a special train to evacuate players, officials and broadcasters from the region. As per the BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, they have organized a training session to ensure the safety of the players as the match has been called off and the stadium is now evacuated.

Notably, eight players of the West Indies including Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd, Andre Russel, Rovman Powell, Sunil Narine, Shamar Joseph, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sherfane Rutherford have been playing the IPL for different teams.

Earlier, Nicholas Pooran who is playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had also secured the orange cap for scoring the highest runs for the franchise in the ongoing IPL. However, other players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Sai Shudharshan, Shubhman Gill and renowned world class batter Virat Kohli took the spot in the ranking.

The tension between India and Pakistan has intensified due to the killings of 26 civilians in Pahalgam of Jammu Kashmir. In response to it, India launched the air strike at a terrorist base operating in Pakistan. Now, Pakistan has launched the missiles towards India, further escalating the tension.
