Grenada: Govt to discuss 'Climate Change Adaptation' through community visits

Grenada: The Ministry of Climate Resilience of Grenada in collaboration with the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Team is all set to visit communities island wide to discuss climate change through meets, exhibitions, and discussions. The authorities in regard to this have issued a complete calendar of their scheduled visits.

The visits will begin on 9th September 2024 and will continue till 20th September 2024. These will allow locals to have a word directly with the authorities regarding their concerns towards climate change.

The visits will also provide a platform for residents to talk about climate resiliency and discuss crucial strategies to tackle the developing effects of climate change.

The community visit will commence from St. Patrick’s, where it will be conducted at the Mt. Craven Community Center at 5:00 pm. The next meeting will be held in St. Andrew at the Grenville Secondary School on 11th September at the same time.

The third meeting will be conducted the next day on 12th September at the St. John/St. Mark, Anglican School at 5:00 pm. Another conference will be held at the Canal, St David again at 5:00 pm on 16th September.

The last two meets will however be taking place on 17th and 20th September in localities including St George’s Boca Secondary School and Carriacou and Petite Martinique’s Mermaid Hotel. The meeting at St George will be held on the normal timings at 5:00 pm, however at Carriacou and Petite Martinique it will be conducted at 10:00 am.

These scheduled community visits and meetings are set under the theme ‘Everyone in Action For Climate Change Adaption’ and the authorities in regard to this have stated ‘Let’s hear what’s happening in your area’.

The collective initiative by the Ministry of Climate Resilience and NAP Global Network and G-Crews Project aims to enhance climate resiliency and effectiveness among the citizens across Grenada. This project aims to extract effective outcomes and understand public needs.

One of the comments under the government’s official post stating the details of the event is catching eyes and stated the initiative to be very crucial in addressing the rising concern.

“This is a crucial opportunity for us, the people of Grenada, to come together and share valuable ideas to address climate change. As we are still in hurricane season, our contributions can make a real difference for our nation. We aim to create a sustainable environment for our children and future generations by restoring the natural surroundings and advocating climate justice. Our mission is to rebuild with resilience and make our country even better than before.”

This comment by a worker named Dr Joslyn Peters from the Ministry of Tourism in Grenada underscores the government efforts and the need for public involvement in tackling major issues across the nation.
