Reality Boat Completely Destroyed by Hurricane Beryl in Grenada, Fisherfolks looking ways of rebuilding

Grenada: Due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl, Grenada’s very own Reality boat has been ripped apart and turned into the mere pieces of the wood. The boat- an essential part for the survival and earning of the fisherfolks and other marine workers, has been devastated by the natural calamity in just a few hours.

Reality Boat was launched on March 1, 2020, in the presence of several government officials. It was considered as a great step in the advancement of the marine infrastructure which could ultimately lead to economic diversification in the country.

However, the passage of Hurricane has taken no time in destroying the means of earning and survival of the local fisherfolks and other daily wagers. The citizens have expressed disappointment with the damage as hundreds of them lost their means of livelihoods due to the natural calamity.

The boat was built together wth Free in St Barths, but launched years after with the installment of the ribs. The boat also signified the growth of the infrastructure in the marine sector as it could be efficiently used for the exporting or importing the products from one location to another.

However, the natural calamity has caused destruction, leading to the destroy of almost 100% of the infrastructure in Grenada. The government took several measures to build back from the effect of the Beryl, but even after 3 months, the situation is still at the same place.

The conditions are getting somewhat normalized with the restoration of the electricity and water, but the issue of the devastated infrastructure is the great concern for these countries.

In Grenada, the glimpses were shared on the social media, showcasing the complete destruction of the Museum which was owned by Rasta/Banan Joe. The museum was the means of livelihood of the Joe, but it was completely destroyed and turned into ashes due to the gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

The entire destruction is the result of climate change and excessive outbreak of the carbon footprints across the globe. Due to the geographical locations, the countries including the Caribbean region and other small island nations are prone to these natural calamities and are supposed to face the wrath of hurricanes and tropical storms.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season started on June 1, 2024 and the first hurricane of the season- Beryl caused life-threatening destruction across the Caribbean. The islands such as Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica and Saint Lucia have faced the destruction and lost most of their infrastructure due to the passage of the storm.
