Dominica State College’s A.C.T.S. Summer Camp Concludes Successfully
A.C.T.S. summer camp held at Dominica State College comes to a conclusion on Monday and turned out huge success

Dominica: The A.C.T.S. summer camp held at Dominica State College comes to a conclusion on Monday. The four-week summer camp focused on Agriculture, Culture, Tourism and Science, hence giving the name A.C.T.S summer camp.
The camp commenced on 16th July with an opening ceremony and including a tour to the Dominica State College. The participants also got the opportunity to meet DSC student supervisors and teachers. The event was attended by a total of 33 participants aged between 6-15 years.
This summer event initiated with a focus on Agriculture on its first week and the collaborators for the week 1 were Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & the Blue and Green Economy and sponsors were BloomBox and Agri Sales and Services Co. Ltd and Lindo Mart.
The children learned planting a seedling and engaged in a reading session with JCI Dominica-Jaycees on their first day. Week 1 also included a visit to local farms where the children got to know about growing vegetables, baking muffins, cooking, painting stones, and more.
The Week 2 commenced on 23rd July with its theme ‘culture’. During this segment of the event candidates got to learn about the local traditions, jewellery making, traditional dances, and a visit to the lesser-known parts of the country in order to know about culture.
The week 3 focused on Tourism, during which the participants had the opportunity to visit several local tourist places and immersed themselves within the nature. The participants during this part of the trip had the opportunity to know more about different places and their traditions.
The camp ended with week 4 majorly focusing on science and included fun activities to understand basic science. The participants were also awarded with a certificate at the end of the event from the college authorities.
Apart from this, the summer camp also featured many inclusive activities to interact with children and build their co-holistic approach. Some of the activities included Belle Dancing, workshops, crafting, painting and many more fun games.
At the camp various DSC facilitators participated including– Lakeiya Joseph and Coraley Thomas represented Agriculture, Delia Cuffy Weekes, Derrick Rah Peters, Tasha Peltier, and Espeweyans Kweyol (DBS) represented the Cultural Division, Julian Benjamin, Kerwaine Lloyd, and Marissa Sabaroche-Jules for Tourism, and Jeanelle Brisbane, Veronne Nicholas, and Malisa Richards for Science.
In response to its success, the Officer in Charge for DCS noted that the event will be continued in the future aiming in increased participation of children. She noted that the camp plays a vital role in providing the children with deep insights about, Agriculture, Culture, Tourism and Science.
Notably, this camp has garnered a lot of attention among citizens and they all are praising the efforts of Dominica State College to teach the children with such important sectors of the country.
Ursha Winston, a Facebook user stated that, “Cudos to you all for a well-organized summer program. By far one of the best well put together. Looking forward to next year”.
Coraley Thomas, another user noted the event to be a “Great Initiative”.
“Such events are crucial for a good development of children. Great initiative by dominica state college” Jasmin Jay Henderson stated.
Another user, Theresa Lewis added that, “the event was amazing, I will definitely send my children the next year. It looks to be a great learning experience”.
