Trinidad: Two bandits face legal trials in Maraval robbery case  

The Trinidad and Tobago police officials held two male suspects among three in Port of Spain for being involved in the act of robbery and violence in the Maraval district. The arrest was conducted after the unlawful act last week, on Thursday, 15 August.

The information on the arrests in the robbery and violence case of Maraval, Trinidad, was provided by the police department on Monday, 19 August. It was mentioned that the two accused men were scheduled for the expected appearance in the High Court on the day.

In the dedicated crime eradication operation in the Maraval robbery and violence case, the Trinidad police also recovered the stolen items. The responding officers also seized an illegal firearm during the arrest of the two suspects in Port of Spain.

The two men involved in the crime of robbery and violence are identified by the police department. The accused are mentioned in the police report as a 26-year-old man named Joel Cruickshank and a 24-year-old man named Moses Waithe.

Joel Cruickshank is disclosed to be a resident of the settlement in Dan Kelly, Laventille. Meanwhile, the other accused of robbery, Moses Waithe, is found to be a local resident of Maraval, living in the residence situated along Dickson Street.

As per the shared information of the robbery and violence case of Maraval, Trinidad, the criminal incident was recorded during the morning time on Thursday, around 08:30 am. The individual who was looted by the bandits is mentioned in the case as a male victim.

It is mentioned that the victim was at his home garage when the suspects entered the scene and took him inside the house by use of force. After entering the house of the victim, the bandits tied the man along with one more occupant at the place.

After ensuring the avoidance of resistance by the victims, the bandits ransacked the entire house in order to loot the items of high value. It is disclosed that there were three male bandits involved in the robbery, among which only two were caught by police.

The items that were stolen by the bandits during the robbery were a Samsung A15 phone, a Samsung S23 Ultra phone, a Samsung 55-inch TV, 15 thousand dollars cash, and other foreign currencies. The suspects also took a 37-inch Phillips TV and an NP 300 pickup of grey color to escape the place.

It is said that one of the bandits possessed a handgun, which was used to commit the crime and to threaten the victims. After the bandits left the house with looted items, the victim removed their bondage and checked the place.

The victim found an empty iron safe and missing items from its places. Straight after, the information about the robbery and violence in Maraval was passed to the police authority of Trinidad. In response to the information, police units took action in the region.

A team of officers in uptown Port of Spain spotted the NP 300 pickup and intercepted it after finding the similarity with the description. The action was taken by PC Persad and a party of officers during a mobile patrol near Park and Henry Streets.

As the police officers took action and intercepted the vehicle, the two suspects emerged out and started running to escape. The effort by the suspects led to a small chase, which ended with the apprehension of both the male bandits.

During the chase, a suspect dropped a pistol of 9 mm calibre, which was loaded with 13 counts of ammunition in a magazine. The firearm was seized by the police, and the pickup vehicle was searched. The search of the pickup helped police in the finding of the stolen item.

The recovered items were taken to the Maraval Police Station, where the victims of the robbery identified them. The recovered things were a quantity of cash, two televisions, two Samsung cell phones, and a safe.

Subsequently, the two bandits were taken into police custody and eventually laid with relevant charges of robbery and violence in the Maraval district of Trinidad. Moses Waithe was laid with extra counts of charges for processing a lethal weapon and ammunition without any authority.

As the two men are facing legal proceedings for the commited crimes under laid charges, the police department is conducting an investigation into the matter. The investigation officers are taking steps to catch the third involved suspect in the criminal act of Maraval.
