Trinidad Police arrest 13 in special operation, seize cocaine & Capuchin Monkey

Trinidad and Tobago: The police department conducted an anti-crime operation dedicated in the localities of the Central Division of Trinidad. The operation led to the arrest of thirteen suspects in total, among which ten were of Venezuelan origin.

The police department seized quantities of cocaine and a Capuchin Monkey on Thursday, 08 August.

The information about the arrest of three locals and ten individuals of Venezuelan background was shared by the authority of Trinidad and Tobago Police Services.

The department disclosed the details of the seizure amid the operation, which helped in revealing the illegal possession of narcotics and an animal.

As per the report on the case of prohibited possessions by suspects, including Venezuelan people in Trinidad, the action was taken by the officers of Central Divisional Task Force Area South. The crime eradication operation was the reaction on the basis of the intelligence.

The mission was stretched in the hours of 03:00 pm to 08:00 pm on the day.

The localities on the focus were areas of the Couva and Freeport districts, which are already listed as known drug hotspots in the police records.

The search was executed in the areas, which was successful after the discovery of suspected criminal activities. The prime discovery was made by the officers during their action in the California village.

The assigned unit of police officers made their lead to the area along Soobran Street in Dow, California, Couva. At the site, lawmen targeted an abandoned building that was searched. In the search, the responding officers collected a quantity of cocaine that weighed nearly eight grams.

Along with cocaine, officers also found a Capuchin monkey, which was also kept illegally.

The action by Trinidad police led to the arrest of ten individuals who were identified as people of Venezuelan heritage. All the ten suspected Venezuelans were taken into custody for possessing illegal contraband, as they were caught at the targeted site.

The police department seized the quantity of cocaine and took it to the police station along with the arrested suspects.

It is mentioned in the details that the Capuchin monkey that was found in the abandoned building was given to the Forestry Game Warden Officers.

The other target of the police team was the locality along Greig Street in the Balmain village of Couva. The search exercise was conducted in the area where a male suspect was held.

The suspected individual was a 46-year-old man who is known as a resident of Moruga. The man was found in possession of a quantity of cocaine. The discovered amount of cocaine was 44 grams, which was seized, and the male suspect was also arrested.

The authorities mentioned that two more individuals were booked in the region for involvement in a similar offense. The investigation is continued by the Trinidad police in the matter where accused Venezuelan men are also facing legal proceedings.
