NHC Monitors Two New Tropical Disturbances in Atlantic Basin (PC - NHC)

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) is now monitoring two new tropical disturbances across the Atlantic Basin which emerged off the west coast of Africa on Thursday evening.

NHC said that the Tropical waves in Central Tropical Atlantic have a medium chance of development (50%), whereas the other near the coast of Africa has a low chance of development (20%) in the coming week.

The NHC further states that the development of disturbance near Cabo Verde and the Lesser Antilles has a high chance of transforming into a named storm ‘Francine’. This tropical storm is getting accelerated with rising low-pressure conditions in the Atlantic.

If the conditions are sustained in the following days it will lead to the formation of the new storm. The low-pressure conditions are also progressing aggressively with well-defined organized showers and thunderstorm activities.

According to the NHC, the system is now only a disorganized region of thunderstorms that are slightly more concentrated around the axis, but the developing conditions indicate that it may develop slowly by the middle of next week.

The effects of the tropical wave near the central tropical Atlantic can notably be seen in the regions across the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico with disorganized showers and thunderstorms which are most concentrated in the area of interest.

The tropical system is expected to move towards the Lesser Antilles over the course of next week at a gradual speed of 10-15 mph. However, it is then expected to move towards its west-north-westward across regions in the eastern and central Caribbean Sea.

This Potential tropical storm, Francine is forming in a location known for potential tropical disturbances during this time of year. September is often regarded as the busiest month of the Atlantic hurricane season; hence it is further expected that the coming month will see more tropical developments.

Since the tropical waves are expected to grow stronger in the coming week, residents are urged to exercise necessary precautions ahead of time to minimize any damage caused due to the concerning weather conditions.
