The Judith Champion MixFest announced the Caribbean MixFest 2024, which will held this year in New York. The Free Reading Series Play Festival will be held from 14 September to 20 September 2024 at the Atlantic Stage 2.
The Caribbean MixFest 2024 is part of Judith Champion MixFest, which is a free reading series theater festival. The event is held annually to explore and celebrate the works of craters in the field and the abundance of diverse stories.
The MixFest focuses on different regions globally every year. The event was named Asian American MixFest in year 2017, Middle Eastern MixFest in year 2018, Immigrant MixFest in year 2019, African Caribbean MixFest in year 2021, and First Gen MixFest in year 2022.
It was Traditions of the Diaspora MixFest last year in 2023 and now Caribbean MixFest 2024. The administered noted that the series of readings in New York is co-produced by Jean Carlo Yunén A and co-curated by theater artists Patrice Johnson Chevannes and Cristina Angeles.
The event will be organized in Atlantic Stage 2 at 330 West 16th Street. The fest will present readings of full-length plays by names like Karl O’Brian Williams, Nelson Diaz-Marcano, Fedna Jacquet, La Daniella, and Iraisa Ann Reilly.
Alongside a short play by Erlina Ortiz, short one-acts will also be presented for the creation of which Atlantic Theater Company has commissioned Nehassaiu deGannes, Juliette Jeffers, Karina Billini, and Phanésia Pharel.
The lineup of the Caribbean MixFest 2024 is announced by the officials. As per the schedule, the event will start with a Panel Discussion. “Meet the Artist” artist meet ups will also be hosted on Saturday, 14 September. The second day will start with the display, which will continue till the end of the fest.
On Sunday, 15 September, Nelson Diaz Marcano’s 1898 will be shown, which is directed by Estefanía Fadul. On Monday, 16 September Fedna Jacquet’s Black Mother Lost Daughter, directed by Jerrica D. White will be displayed at the MixFest.
Iraisa Ann Reilly’s The Jersey Devil Is A Papi Chulo, directed by Jean Carlo Yunén A. will be displayed on Tuesday, 17 September. Karl O’Brian Williams’s Not Above Eve, directed by Patrice Johnson Chevannes, is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 September.
The second last day is booked for La Daniella’s Castillos De Plastico, directed by Cristina Angeles. The Caribbean MixFest 2024 will be concluded on Friday, 20 September, with Short Plays by Karina Billini, Nehassaiu deGannes, Juliette Jeffers, Erlina Ortiz, and Phanésia Pharel.
The event will be joined by known names of Creatives in the field, like Cristina Angeles, a Co-Curator and Director; Karina Billini, a Short Play Commissioned Writer; Patrice Johnson Chevannes, a Co-Curator and Director; La DANIELLA, a Playwright; Nehassaiu deGannes, a Short Play Commissioned Writer.
Other names like on Diaz-Marcano, a Playwright; Estefanía Fadul, a Director; Nadia Guevara, a Director; Fedna Jacquet, a Playwright; Juliette Jeffers, a Short Play Commissioned Writer; and Erlina Ortiz, a Short Play Writer will also be part of the fest with other creatives.
