Grand Bahama, Bahamas: A fire on Monday evening left two renowned businessmen with huge losses leaving their respective buildings to ashes.
Darren Cooper, the owner of DS Car Rentals reported receiving a call at around 7:00 pm on Monday from a nearby resident regarding the fire and immediately responded to the fire site.
Roman Russel, the other businessman and the owner of Fast Forward Imports and Logistics Downtown Freeport, also suffered huge damage as the fire severely damaged both the buildings and filled them with smoke.
The businessman upon their arrival said, everything was burned up and damaged and they were left with nothing but burned remains of their goods. He added that the fire crews are conducting their initial investigations to get to the root cause of the fire.
Cooper, the businessman being upset stated, “And so now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, we have to come to grips and pick up the pieces and figure out where do we go next. And so we’re doing just that.”
The official at the incident stated that the fire may have been a cause of Arson. However, Cooper regarded it as a myth and said that the building was properly secured.
“We, as business owners, are not supporting or running the myth that it may have been foul play or arson. Our building and the property were secured,” Cooper said.
He further noted that some sensitive damage has been seen inside the building, however, no visible tampering are there. The businessman stated that he has left everything to the law authorities and they will take the final decision.
The company spokesperson, Dequan Swain was also present at the place of disaster and noted that the cause of the fire remains unknown, but he also confirmed that both the adjoining buildings underwent severe damage.
“From the surface, it is extensive damage, very, very extensive damage, fire damage, smoke damage throughout the full building. I guess because of the heat of it, it blew out some of the windows as well of the building,” the spokesperson mentioned.
Notably, the building of DS Car Rentals was deliberately destroyed a few months back causing huge damage to the owner and this incident again is a huge setback for Cooper.
Swain in regard to this emphasized, “This is another blow for the business, it’s something that would literally hit the heart of any business owner.”
The investigation team in regard to the incident mentioned that it is very early to determine a specific cause for the fire. Investigations are ongoing and a decision will be made soon by the authorities regarding the incident.
