Guyana: The Dancehall Superstar from Jamaica, Vybz Kartel has signed a new contract with Hits and Jams Entertainment for a show in Guyana, which was delayed since he was imprisoned for more than a decade.
Last month, the Jamaican star, who in an interview refused to visit Guyana again, changed his statement with the announcement of the new contract being inked.
Kartel in his statement noted, “I refused to go there before the ban was imposed so that ban wasn’t necessary. I banned myself. Big up the Guyanese Gaza fans but I would sooner tour Iraq than go to Guyana.”
The singing sensation was notably banned from the Guyana-based National Communications Network for his music in 2011. Kartel said that the ban was imposed on him after he withdrew himself from a scheduled appearance in a government-supported concert.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t attend the show and that is the reason why the ban on my music was imposed. With that being said, I care zero about them and their ban because I won’t be visiting Guyana ever,” he stated.
However, now he released a video on his official Instagram account stating his comeback to the country. He has also signed the contract for the same and hence it becomes official that the star will be landing on the island nation soon.
Kartel’s career took substantial turns with his arrest in 2011 in a murder case. The artist was then convicted in 2014 and since then has been spending time in prison until his release in July 2024.
Since he has been released from the prison, he is trying his best to build back his presence and popularity. The recent contract being signed with HJ events marks a new track for his career to develop.
Notably, he had a prior contract with the event management team previously but that got cancelled following the legal troubles he faced back then. One of the social media users in regard to this jokingly commented, “I still have my ticket…if he fulfilling his previous contract.”
Another user said, “So I should be able to use my last ticket since he fulfilling his promise.”
“We need a discount on our ticket because I paid in full for my regional night ticket in August 2011. Dem is properly made our asses that night, oh he’s coming on a private plane, world boss is on his way and he never shows up,” Bapodilla Brown stated her concerns for the concert.
“Anybody with little sense who works for their money will wait to see what his Jamaica concert is like before getting any ideas about spending money to see him in Guyana,” said Mark Thom on Facebook.
