The authorities of Guyana discovered a quantity of cocaine worth around 200 million US dollars near the clandestine airstrip in the Matthews Ridge area. The illegal finding was explored with the help of intelligence by the United States of America.
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit shared the details and mentioned that the US authorities helped Guyana in locating the cocaine. The officials found the narcotic buried on the spot which they eventually dug out and weighed professionally.
The weight of the narcotics was nearly 4.4 tons. The illegal possession was found covered with wooden planks.
James Singh, the head of the anti-narcotics unit, mentioned that the cocaine was unearthed from the area of army bunkers near the Guyana-Venenzulela border. The narcotics were found in the Guyana side of the border.
The authorities have started an investigation and learned more about the future plans of the cartel the narcotics belong to. It is said that the cocaine near an illegal clandestine airstrip in Guyana was intended to be taken to Europe.
The operation was executed by the Special Forces Unit of the Guyana Defense Force. The Special Forces Unit found the cocaine from several pits at the same location in the Matthews Ridge area.
All the quantity of narcotics found at the illegal airstrip was destroyed by the officers after the examination and the collection of samples.
The officials shared their words on the case and said, “This seizure highlights the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit and the unwavering commitment of the Government to combating the narcotics trade in Guyana and collaborating with international partners.”
They added, “The Government of Guyana is making significant strides to equip the Joint Services with the necessary tools to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities within the country. Recent investments in the GDF Coast Guard, Air Corps, and the Guyana Police to enhance monitoring of border regions underscore this dedication.”
The investigation in relation to the finding of illegal 4.4 tons of cocaine at the clandestine airstrip in Matthews Ridge, Guyana, is active. Till now, no arrest has been confirmed in the matter. The law enforcement authorities are in search of culprits involved in drug trafficking.
People shared their views in relation to the case and said, “These traffickers are increasing their unwanted acts regularly. Like cocaine of two hundred million is not a joke. How they are able to get that all in the country…… not acceptable!!”
People also said, “This is not the first time such thing we saw. Many times drugs have been taken inside the state and no one noticed. This is a big catch, but who knows how big the amount is still revolving around…..in billions, obviously. Before also got these criminals behind bars but it is a big gangs operating this. Just catch them really soon and grow better.”
