Dominican Dennick Luke Sets New National Record in 800m at Paris Olympics
The middle distance runner of Dominica, Dennick Luke, made a new national record in the Men’s 800 meter event at the ongoing Paris Summer Olympics Games 2024.

The middle distance runner of Dominica, Dennick Luke, made a new national record in the Men’s 800 meter event at the ongoing Paris Summer Olympics Games 2024.
This huge achievement by the athlete is being hailed by leaders and citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica, with people congratulating him and wishing his all the best for future.
In spite of making a new record, the athlete’s dreams of making it to the semi finals of the Men’s 800 meter event at the international games were broken as he came up short in his attempt to qualify on Thursday morning.
According to the information, Luke ran a time of 1 minute 47.54 seconds in heat number 4 on Wednesday but the time was just a bit ahead of his personal best but not quick enough to get him into the top 3 automatic qualification positions.
Then on Thursday, he got another chance as he participated in the Repechage. The Dominican athlete started the race strong and was with the rest of the runner after the first 400 meters but was later pulled away and finished in a time of 1 minute 46.81 seconds.
While not able to qualify for the semi finals, Dennick Luke made a New National Record and Personal Best with this time of 1 minute 46.81 seconds.
He finished the race in 6th place, the race was won by Haigura Kethobogile of Botswana in a time of 1 minute 45.52 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Dominicans were happy with the achievement of Luke with Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit saying, “Thank you Dennick Luke for your representation of our country at the Paris Olympics. We wish Dennick, swimmers, Jasmine Schofield and Warren Lawrence, and Olympic Champion Thea Lafond ongoing success in their careers.”
Another citizen mentioned, “Although he did not qualify, we Congratulate Dennick Luke on setting a new National Record in 800M and personal best participating in the Repechage today Thursday.”
Also, the athlete remarked that he feels motivated to perform better in the upcoming events throughout the season and will make his country proud.
