Grenada’s star athlete Anderson Peters MBE won the bronze medal in the javelin finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He competed in his first Olympic final and threw a distance of 88.54m to secure his home country’s second medal in the international games on Thursday.

With a throw of 88.63 meters, Anderson Peters qualified for the javelin throw final at Paris 2024. He looked confident as he threw a season-best in this event and looked strong going into the final.

With this achievement, he also became the first Grenadian athlete to medal in a throwing event at the Olympic Games and the first one to medal in a field event.

Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem made a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters (305 feet) to secure gold, beating India’s Neeraj Chopra, while the latter threw 89.45m and bagged the silver medal.

This victory is being looked as huge for the small island nation of Grenada with leaders joining and congratulating Anderson for making the country proud.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said, “Anderson has made his family, coach, parish, and country incredibly proud.”

He further added that the country celebrates Anderson’s hard work, success and his unwavering commitment to excellence and said that he is looking forward to seeing what the athlete will accomplish in future.

Anderson has trained for many years under the guidance of coach Paul Phillip, who also shared in this victory.

The Acting Minister of Sport, Delma Thomas, remarked, “It is with great pride that I extend heartfelt congratulations to our outstanding athletes who represented Grenada with excellence at the Paris meet.”

“A special salute to Anderson Peters for his incredible achievement of winning the bronze medal in the javelin. Your hard work, resilience, and determination continue to inspire us all,” he added.

Peters is a former world champion, having a personal best of 93.07m, which is why the whole country had high hopes for him as he secured a place in the finals.

Before the big day, I also took to Facebook to ask everyone for good wishes, saying, “My first Olympic finals at Paris 2024, I’ve dreamt about this since 2012. Now I’m ready!”

The athlete now looks forward to more achievements throughout this season as he continues to leave his mark internationally.
