Dreadful lightning shook Sint Maarten: ‘5’severely injured

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten: A massive lightning strike at a Broad Walk in the city left five dead including tourists. The local authorities reported the incident to be occurred during intense weather conditions at approximately 1:15 pm on Wednesday.
In response to the incident, the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) and ambulance services immediately arrived at the emergency location and stated that,” Upon arrival, first responders discovered that five persons including tourists had been struck by lightning during the severe weather conditions.”
Out of the five suspects, three sustained major injuries and were rushed to the nearby Sint Maarten Centre for treatment. On the other hand, the other two were reported to suffer minor injuries, which does not require hospitalization. The authorities confirmed the news emphasizing the quick services provided in response to emergency situations.
The incident has caused fear in the public and raised concerns about safety in inclement weather, particularly since many residents and visitors are visiting open crowded areas like the popular Philipsburg Boardwalk.
The KPSM in response to which issued a public safety warning urging the locals to take care of themselves and take necessary precautions during the period of inclement weather highlighting the extreme weather conditions and common lighting strikes in the country.
In addition, the authorities conveyed their condolences to the individuals who were hurt in the tragedy. The officials went on to offer the family their support during these trying times and emphasised that they would keep an eye on the injured parties’ circumstances and would provide the required assistance.
The authorities then advised the locals to follow any issued local advisories and to keep an eye on local news channels for updates on the changing weather.
Notably, such incidents are a result of rising climate change and aggression, no one could be blamed for the same. Whereas, in such cases our safety becomes our own concern and one should avoid going out in extreme weather conditions until very necessary.
