Trinidad: Saint Augustine bandits on escape after robbery at gas station

Trinidad and Tobago: The officers of the law enforcement unit are conducting a manhunt in response to the robbery case of Saint Augustine.

The unlawful act was recorded at a gas station in the town where a convenience store was allegedly looted by two men on Thursday, 08 August.

The action taken in the matter is taken by the dedicated team of officers from the North Central Division of Trinidad. The information on the criminal act of robbery in Saint Augustine was shared by the police authorities of the Twin Island state on Saturday, 10 August.

As per the details shared by police on the Saint Augustine robbery case, the two suspects of the crime were armed with guns on the day. It is said that the two armed men entered the convenience store on Thursday and announced their intention to rob.

It is mentioned that the bandits approached the cashier of the store and took him on aim of their guns. The suspects threatened the cashier and demanded for all the cash.

The aggressive approach by the bandits made cashier fearful for his safety after which he followed the instructions given by the suspects.

Subsequently, all the cash was handed over to the bandits, which was around eight thousand dollars in total. Along with the quantity of cash, the suspects also took some bottles of alcoholic beverages from the store before making their way out of the crime site.

It is disclosed that the security guard who was serving his duty to protect the place was also looted by the two men during the robbery of Saint Augustine. According to the reports, the guard lost his Samsung 13 smartphone in the act

A customer at the store was also relieved of cash of around four hundred dollars. The information about the crime was immediately passed to the police department, after which the division police took charge. In response, the North Central Emergency Response Patrol Unit officers arrived at the scene.

The quick action by the police helped the officers to spot the criminals exiting the space after the loot. The suspects observed the police and fired on their director, which led to a shootout.

The police officers also got armed with their authorized guns and started shooting in retaliation.

Reportedly, the shooting was active from both sides when the suspects managed to escape the place in a motor vehicle. It is said that the two bandits left the place in a Nissan Tiida motor vehicle of silver color and headed in a west direction.

However, a chase was given by the responding team of police continued to the market along Railway Road in Tunapuna, Trinidad.

In the market, the suspects left the motor vehicle and disappeared by taking advantage of the crowd. It is known that the bandits were last spotted while running in the south direction on foot.

Meanwhile, the crime scene was investigated by the officers of the North Central Crime Scene Investigating Unit. The team of officers recovered a quantity of cigarettes at the place, along with a black Berretta pistol and a magazine fitted with 17 counts of active 9 mm ammo.

The vehicle used in the robbery of Saint Catherine by bandits was seized, and it was found that it was fitted with a fake registration plate.

The police department recovered 2903 dollars from inside the vehicle, which was found during the search of the car. The case is under investigation, and a manhunt operation is being conducted to find the bandits.
