Trinidadian Alyssa Adams wins Caribbean’s 1st-ever medal at IMMAF championship

Trinidad and Tobago: The competitor from Trinidad and Tobago, Alyssa Adams, bagged the bronze medal while representing the nation.

The results were recorded after the final performances of the fighters at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Youth championship on Thursday, 08 August.

Trinidad and Tobago is the first Caribbean nation to collect a medal from the known global event that is being hosted this year in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.

The World Youth Championship is a five-day event which is organized at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi. The sports tournament is scheduled between the dates of 06 August and 10 August and is overseen by the authority of IMMAF.

The event is organised in the capital of the UAE for the third consecutive year and is joined by 45 countries around the world.

The championship was joined by around eight hundred competitors around the world in different sections, among whom Alyssa Adams was one to represent Trinidad and Tobago.

Alyssa Adams secured the position while fighting in the 52kg division of the Group C category, which contains players of 12 to 13-year-old ages.

Trinidad and Tobago fighter, Alyssa Adams, gave tough competition to her opponents and made her spot in the top spots by winning crucial matches.

The young fighter made her space into the semi-final round, for which she faced her competitor, Maggie Meanie, who was representing Ireland in the championship. Alyssa Adams defeated Maggie Meanie and promoted her name for the fight of silver medal.

In the semi-final match, Alyssa Adams was scheduled to fight against Sonayeva, who was representing Azerbaijan. In the Trinidad and Tobago versus Azerbaijan match, Alyssa Adams ended her venture to the top spot in the World Youth Championship with a loss. Azerbaijan’s fighter secured her position in the finals after defeating Alyssa Adams on points.

However, during the successful venture in the IMMAF championship for youth, the young fighter of Trinidad and Tobago won a bronze medal for her nation and for the Caribbean, while her competitor, Sonayeva, ended her league with a silver medal.

The success of Adams is highlighted as the fighter is the first participant to win any medal in the World Youth Championship from the entire Caribbean till now.

The medalist Adams is trained at Gracie Jiu-jitsu Fight Club under Warren Gill, Technical Director of mixed martial arts for Trinidad and Tobago.

As Alyssa Adams ended her league in the championship, Trinidad and Tobago is still hoping for more winner as two more athletes Keyla Gonzales and Uri Mahabir are still waiting for their event.
