St Vincent and the Grenadines will celebrate its 47th Independence Day on October 27, 2026, under the theme “Hand in Hand, Uplifting Our Nation”, with cultural events and national ceremonies planned throughout October.

St Vincent and the Grenadines is set to celebrate its 47th Independence Day on October 27, 2026, marking its independence from the United Kingdom on October 27, 1979. This year’s theme is “Hand in Hand, Uplifting Our Nation”.
An official flag-raising ceremony was held on October 1 at the Financial Complex in Kingstown. The ceremony marked the beginning of the month-long celebrations dedicated to independence and national pride.
The national anthem was also performed in Garifuna language. The ceremony was the first in a series of activities planned to celebrate the independence month. Special cultural performances formed part of the celebration.
The main focus of this year’s celebrations is on intergenerational collaboration and community support. It will provide an opportunity for citizens to reflect on their journey as a nation and renew their commitment to work together.
Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday proudly carried the national flag. The independence day celebrations are a symbol of unity and commitment to heritage that binds all of Vincians together.
Minister of Sports and Chairman of National Independence Planning Committee Kaschaka Cupid laid down the whole list of activities that will take place throught the month. Events which already took place are Independence Funday, National Day of Prayer. On October 21, Service of Thanksgiving ; on October 23, Sir Dwight Venner Memorial Independence Lecture , hen on October 27, National Independence Parade and Cultural Extravaganza will take place.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines celebrated its 46th Independence Day on October 27, 2025. The theme was “Celebrating Our Identity - Inspiring Our Future”. The celebrations reflected nearly five decades of self - determination, progress in education, healthcare, religious harmony, climate and sustainability efforts. Key events included a national military parade, motorsports, and an official national address by then PM Ralph Gonsalves.
