Saint Lucia's Jady Emmanuel Qualifies for World U20 100m Final

Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia’s rising sprinter Jady Emmanuel has secured her place in the women’s 100 metres final at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She gave repeated strong performances that reinfluenced her growing reputation on the international stage.

The 17-year-old won the first-round heat in a personal best of 11.28 seconds. She finished ahead of Guyana’s Athaleyah Hinckson, who qualified in second with 11.31 seconds. Emmanuel’s time marked a new personal best and it also established a new Saint Lucia Under-18 record. This made it one of the best and most significant performances of her young career.

She then returned for semi-finals in which she crossed the line in 11.42 seconds and finished second. She secured one of the automatic qualifying spots for the championship final. The time recorded for the semi-final was slower than her opening-round performance, but it was enough to secure her a spot in the finals. She booked her place among the world’s top junior sprinters competing for the medals.

Emmanuel is a native of Laborie, Saint Lucia and she has given various significant performances this season. Earlier this season she produced a then-personal best of 11.39 seconds and won the women’s 100 metres at the ANOCES Athletics Championships in St. Kitts and Nevis. She achieved the World Athletics qualifying standard for the U20 Championships. She also has established herself as one of Saint Lucia’s brightest athletics prospects after claiming sprint titles at the CARIFTA Games. She has also been consistently lowering her personal bests throughout the season.

The World Athletics U20 Championships are being held from August 5 to 9 at Hayward Field in Eugene. It brings together the world’s leading athletes under the age of 20 and it has also been serving as a launching pad for future Olympic and World Champions. Many athletes begin their international career at this event.

Emmanuel’s qualification reflects another important achievement for Saint Lucian athletes and establishes the country as one of the leading countries to launch capable young athletes.

As Emmanuel has already secured a place in the final and has provided a personal-best performance, she will now look to finish her championship campaign with another strong performance. She will be competing against the world’s fastest Under-20 women in the finals.
