Jamaica secures fourth straight World U20 Relay Gold

Jamaica has won the women’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Sunday, August 9. With this win, Jamaica has won the event for the fourth consecutive time.

Sashana Johnson, Theinna-Lee Terrelonge, Natrece East and Shanoya Douglas all gave an amazing performance to lead world U20 with 42.89 seconds and secure the gold. Switzerland secured the silver with 43.36 seconds, while Belgium took bronze in 43.91 seconds.

Jamaica entered the final exchange behind Switzerland, with Johnson trailing before Douglas received the baton for the anchor leg. Douglas produced a strong finish. Jamaica came into the lead and brought the team home for another championship victory.

The first win of this four consecutive winning streak began in Nairobi in 2021, when Jamaica claimed the women’s 4x100m title in a World U20 record of 42.94 seconds. And then, the country defended the title in Cali in 2022 with 42.59 seconds. After that, Jamaica won again in Lima in 2024 in 43.39 seconds.

For Douglas, the relay gold was her third medal of the championships. The 18-year-old had already won silver in both the 100m and 200m.

Douglas finished second in the women’s 100m final in 11.17 seconds behind American Mia Maxwell, who won in 11.14 seconds. She later took another silver in the 200m after clocking 22.68 seconds.

In 2026, Douglas won the women’s 100m and 200m titles at the 2026 CARIFTA Games and helped Jamaica win the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She also set a Jamaican Under-20 record of 22.11 seconds in the 200m.

Terrelonge reached the 100m final in Eugene and finished sixth in 11.37 seconds after running 11.21 seconds in both the preliminary and semi-final rounds. After that she represented Jamaica at the 2024 World U20 Championships in Lima.

East competed in the women’s 200m in Eugene and then afterwards joined the relay team. She had earlier won silver in the event at the 2026 CARIFTA Games, as she clocked 23.39 seconds.

Jamaica’s latest victory keeps its four-titles streak alive in the women’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics U20 Championships.
