Anguilla: Amarni Webster has won the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) 2026 Regional Tourism Youth Congress, securing the title of Regional Junior Minister of Tourism at the regional competition held in Guyana.
Webster, a student at Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School in Anguilla, competed against 17 other young delegates under the theme “Caribbean Tourism Through the Eyes of Tomorrow.”
Amarni emerged from a field of 18 young participants to earn the title of Regional Junior Minister of Tourism. The Congress was held as a part of the State of Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) in Guyana on Thursday. Raia Cargill of Sunland Baptist Academy won the second spot. She will serve as junior CTO secretary-general, and will be mentored by CTO Secretary-General and CEO Dona Regis-Prosper.
Webster, who is a student of Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, showed through his presentation the importance of young minds and young ideas in generating employment in the tourism industry.
Third position went to Jahneil McKenzie of Daryll Jordan Secondary School in Barbados. Special mention was given to Janica Adams of the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies.
At the end, Regis- Prosper congratulated Amarni and the other delegates who brought their valuable and unique ideas on this platform. Youngsters bring young and fresh energy and hence, their suggestions are valuable because they will inherit the infrastructure, the environment we leave for them. She further added that investing in young minds means investing in the growth and development of the region.
Through the RTYC, CTO aims to strengthen youth participation in tourism and developing emerging leaders. The tourism sector contributes significantly to the Caribbean region’s development. Apart from participating in the programme, delegates also connected with students, educators and the organizers of the programme.
The congress was chaired by Jole St. John of Tobago, the 2025 winner, who challenged the participants to showcase their critical thinking ability to respond to Caribbean’s critical issues. The congress concluded on October 9, 2026.
