Indians in Jamaica celebrate 78th Independence Day
The celebration was led by the High Commissioner Shri Mayank Joshi, who also conducted the flag-hosting ceremony.

Jamaica: The Indian embassy in Jamaica celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India, with a cheerful event at the India House on 15th August 2024.
The celebration was led by the High Commissioner Shri Mayank Joshi, who also conducted the flag-hosting ceremony. He was accompanied by his friends and other Indian nationals, all gathered to celebrate the country’s 78 years of independence.
The event initiated with the Flag hosting ceremony, following which everyone sang the national anthem. The attendees then also came together to sing the Indian national song. The ceremony was full of Pride and enthusiasm among all the participants and showcased their unity.
The event then also featured a series of performances, meant in accordance to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country and celebrated India’s journey so far since independence.
The children from the Indian community residing in Jamaica were the centre stone of the event as they delivered several alluring performances including traditional dance and patriotic songs. These performances by the children set a lively atmosphere of patriotism among all present.
As the event came to a conclusion in the evening, the High Commissioner read out the address of the President of India, Draupadi Murmu to the attendees. The speech highlighted India’s achievements so far since last 78 years and their ongoing journey to the success.
As the event came to an end, tri-colored balloons were released into the sky, symbolizing the significant ties of India and Jamaica. The event was marked as an occasion to foster deep connection among Indian community in Jamaica.
India this year completed 78 years of independence marking a significant milestone for the country. The nation which was earlier ruled by the Britishers for more than 200 years finally got independence on 15th August 1947.
Jamaica and India share cordial and friendly relations. A wide part of Indian communities reside in Jamaica and this year marks as the 179th year since Indian communities are residing in Jamaica. Both countries are also part of leading multilateral and international organizations including NAM, G-77, WIPO, and UN.
Notably, India was one of the first nations to honor Jamaica since it gained independence. Both the countries established diplomatic ties on 12th August 1962. The Prime Ministers of both nations have also met each other a several time discussing several agendas.
Apart from the Prime Ministers, several high-level and Ministerial visits between India and Jamaica. These visits further strengthened ties between both the countries and focused on several initiatives to be taken collectively.
