The delegation included the Minister for Economic Development, Planning, Agriculture and Lands, Forestry Marine Resources and Cooperatives Lennox Andrews, and Minister of Tourism, The Creative Economy, and Culture, Adrian Thomas.
Apart from this, several other stakeholders in the tourism and trade sectors interested in marketing their products and services to Guyana will also be attending the 4-day long Tourism, Trade and Investment mission.
This visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations, creating opportunities for collaboration, and enhancing economic and social connections among other member states.
The day after his arrival, PM Mitchell also met with CARICOM Secretary-General Carla Barnett. During their meeting, the Prime Minister greeted the dedicated staff and discussed vital measures to be taken on key matters specific to CARICOM.
Following his visit to the CARICOM secretariat, the Prime Minister participated in the Pure Grenada Trade and Business Expo. The event organized by the Grenada Tourism Authority, showcased a diverse range of products, including local crafts, agricultural goods, and tourism services.
The scheduled meetings are expected to pave a path for new and broader trade agreements and joint ventures, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, trade and tourism.
The visit will also include a Taste of Grenada event, which will fully focus on promoting Grenada. These efforts by the governments of both nations are led prior to the launch of a direct flight route between Grenada and Guyana once weekly on Saturdays, starting on September 28, 2024, with InterCaribbean Airways.
The addition of this new flight route between both countries further anticipates to significantly benefit the nations with increased tourist arrivals and business transactions. This route will not just reduce the travel time but will help make more frequent visits and exchanges to the country.
PM Mitchell, during his absence from the country appointed Andy Williams, the minister of Mobilisation, implementation, and transformation as the acting prime minister.
This program indicates the government’s commitment to increasing interregional travel and takes a key step toward improving economic and social links between Guyana and Grenada as part of its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
