Grenada: Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell welcomed Hailey Phillip, a grade 5 student and an aspiring first female Prime Minster for a visit to his office.  

PM Mitchell welcomed Hailey to spend time with him and learn about the duties of a Prime Minister. This visit was planned in order to make Hailey more confident and enthusiastic about her dreams.

Hailey Phillip, who is a grade 5 student studying at Samaritan Presbyterian School expressed her desire to be the first Prime Minister during a Town Hall meeting, which was held in St. Patrick last June.

Hailey during the town hall meeting asked the prime minister about the challenges he faces as a prime minister to tackle global issues. She further addedI want to learn that so I can encourage myself to fulfill my dreams and take your position as the first female prime minister

To her reply, everyone present at the meeting started laughing in shock as Hailey dreamt so big, and her passion was truly depicted in her statement.

In regards to Hailey’s passion, the Prime Minister described her as a brave girl while noting “I truly admire Hailey’s bravery and more so her eagerness at such a young age, to help and make a difference in the lives of the children in her community.”

During her visit to the Prime Minister’s office, the young student was welcomed by Mitchell himself following which they spent time in the PM’s office. Hailey also got the chance to roam all around the building and meet other ministers and colleagues working with the Prime Minister.

Subsequently, they had their lunch together and the Prime Minister also listened to young Hailey’s plans to become the prime minister and what changes she wanted to bring to the country.

When asked why she wanted to be a Prime minister, Hailey replied,What I like about the prime minister is I get to be in a quiet place doing some work. I want to become the prime minister to help those in need, what they have to do.”

PM Mitchell posted about Hailey’s visit on his official Facebook account, where he noted Hailey as an Inspiration to everyone and said,I am confident that you will achieve all that we spoke about and I encourage you to keep pursuing your dreams with the same passion and determination that brought you here.”

“You have a heart of gold and I have no doubt that you will make a remarkable impact on our nation. May God continue to bless you and your family,He added.

While saying goodbye, PM Mitchell offered Hailey gifts that included a school bag and other school supplies.  Hailey thanked the prime minister for the gifts and the opportunity to let her stay with him for a whole day.

Hailey noted this as a wonderful opportunity and addressed her fellows in school, and her community, that if they work hard and focus on their dreams, they can achieve anything they want.
