St Kitts and Nevis HC to UK Kevin Issac celebrates 43rd Independence with 200 nationals in London

High Commissioner of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Kingdom Kevin Isaac welcomed approximately 200 nationals from across the UK to London as the Federation’s diaspora came together to commemorate its 43rd Independence Anniversary under the theme “One People, One Vision, Endless Possibilities.”

The gathering brought together Kittitians and Nevisians from different generations, providing an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Independence and the enduring connection between nationals at home and abroad.

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Isaac emphasised that Independence represented more than political freedom. He noted that it also carried a responsibility for citizens to help shape the Federation’s future and contribute to building a country that honours the sacrifices and achievements of previous generations.

He placed particular emphasis on the contribution of the diaspora to national development, highlighting the knowledge, professional expertise, relationships and ideas that nationals overseas can bring to St. Kitts and Nevis.

High Commissioner Isaac encouraged stronger connections between professionals in the diaspora and those working across the Federation, pointing to opportunities for knowledge-sharing, mentorship and collaboration across sectors.

“Imagine what could happen if we fully connect the talent of St. Kitts and Nevis at home with the talent of St. Kitts and Nevis abroad,” he said, citing examples such as healthcare professionals in London mentoring colleagues in Basseterre and engineers in Birmingham collaborating with counterparts in Nevis.

He further reminded nationals living overseas that distance does not diminish their connection to the Federation.

“Do not undervalue your importance to St. Kitts and Nevis,” High Commissioner Isaac urged. “You may live thousands of miles away. But you are not disconnected. You are not forgotten. Your knowledge matters. Your relationships matter. Your investment matters. Your voice matters. Your children matter. And your ideas matter.”

The Independence commemorations also included a gathering at Westminster Abbey earlier in the day, where nationals joined the High Commissioner in prayer for the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis as the Federation marked 43 years of Independence.

The events in London underscored the continuing role of the diaspora in the national life of St. Kitts and Nevis, while reinforcing the message of unity, shared purpose and collective contribution reflected in this year’s Independence theme.
