St Kitts and Nevis, Azerbaijan sign visa-waiver agreement at UNGA 81

St Kitts and Nevis: St Kitts and Nevis and Azerbaijan have signed a visa-waiver agreement covering all categories of passports, easing travel between the two countries.

The agreement was signed in New York on September 24, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81).

The minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Foreign Affairs minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov signed the visa-waiver agreement covering all categories of passports between both nations.

Both sides discussed their current status of bilateral relations, deepening their political dialogues, encouraging mutual visits, and intensifying multilateral platforms, including the UN and Non-Aligned Movement.

The agreement marks another step of deepening ties between both countries, while also aiming at easing travel for citizens of both the countries. The agreement was signed to do away with the visa requirements for diplomatic and official/service passport holders, as well as for ordinary citizens. Such agreements will strengthen people-to-peple ties, diplomatic relations, and official travel between both countries. Till now, visa requirement was mandatory if citizens of both countries wanted to travel to each other’s country.

The agreement has the potential to broaden the scope of economic and humanitarian cooperation, and collaboration in key growth sectors. The other two countries with which Azerbaijan has entered into the visa-waiver  agreements are Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominican Republic. Such agreements enhance global mobility, and adds Azerbaijan to the list of easily accessible places in the world.

What is a Visa- waiver agreement?

A visa -  waiver agreement is an official agreement between two or more countries that allows citizens of these countries to travel to  other countries for shorter durations by doing away with the requirement of a traditional visa. Such agreements are entered into to deepen the cultural and people- to-people ties between different countries.
