Bahamas: The police officials in the Bahamas are investigating reports of a missing aircraft bound for Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas. The small plane left from Sebastian, Florida on Sunday, August 4, 2024 and disappeared mysteriously over Bahamas amid severe weather.
According to the preliminary reports, a lone male pilot operating a white, red, and blue striped two-seater aircraft took off from Florida around 9 am and failed to reach Marsh Harbour, Abaco, which was its intended destination.
It is being said that the aircraft’s most recent known location was north of Grand Bahama just before 11 am. However, efforts to reach the pilot were unsuccessful.
The mysterious disappearance of the plane has forced the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and US Coast Guard to initiate a search and rescue operation. The officials are trying to locate the missing aircraft.
It is to be noted that the weather across the Caribbean is also stormy with possibilities of Tropical Storm approaching the region.
Meanwhile, a friend of the pilot William Bowden also took to Facebook to urge everyone to keep an eye for him.
He said, “All, a dear friend of mine and a sports pilot went down yesterday inbound to MYAM in his light sport. I am asking for you all to please keep an eye out if you find yourself in or around the Abaco or Freeport area.”
Several users are also praying for the pilot’s safe return with a user named Joe Darville saying, “Was wondering why I saw that coast guard plant flying round and round” while another user said, “Pray that he is found safe and sound. Why on earth would he leave with all this stormy weather going on. Gusty winds rain bands thunder storms and rough seas. Our weather in GB has still been very bad today.”
Notably, another aircraft bound for Bahamas also went missing last year around same time which was never found later.
The plane, a Cessna 402B, operated by Azure Aviation, registration C6-SPK, went missing about 17 miles west of Eleuthera Island, Bahamas on August 19, 2023.
The sole pilot onboard was said to be missing and presumed dead. The flight originated from Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL/KFLL), Florida, and was destined for North Eleuthera International Airport (ELH/MYEH).
