St Kitts and Nevis: The St Kitts and Nevis (SKN) moves programme has launched a 7- week-campaign to celebrate their 5th anniversary on 9th August 2024. The event started with an opening ceremony which took place at Independence Square on Friday.
This opening ceremony focused on a thorough discussion on health-related topics by key personalities including the Permanent Secretory for the ministry of Health, Curtis Martin.
The event then moved on to discuss three pillars of the SKN moves programme including Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Health Screening.
Maartin Stated that the campaign is set to feature planned activities organised in an effort to promote healthy lifestyle while noting that the campaign is a 7- week weight loss wellness challenge.
The event commenced on 9th August 2024 and will end on 17th September 2024. During this duration it will cover different events to promote a healthy lifestyle among participants.

- 15th August 2024: Healthy Business Obstacle Course Challenge
- 17th August 2024: Charity 10K Run and Treasure Hunt
- 26thto 30th August 2024: Drink Water Challenge
- 29th August 2024: Panel Discussion
- 13th September 2024: National Sneaker Day
- 14th September 2024: Independence Health Walk
- 17th September 2024: National Fruit Day
The participants that registered for the campaign were weighed at the Ministry of Health, Bladen Commercial Development, Wellington Road, Basseterre. This helped the authorities to plan better activities from the information attained.
However, the final weight weighing will be conducted from 23rd to 26th September at the same venue between 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. This result will help the authorities to interpret the outcomes of the challenge and provide a base to them for improvements.
Notably, The SKN moves programme launched in 2019, was designed by the Ministry of Health in an aim to reduce the effect of non-communicable disease by creating a healthy lifestyle among the population.
The programme aims to promote a healthy living through informing and engaging them in healthy eating habits, promoting physical activities and improving food security to help the audience in developing healthier eating habits.
The programme also promotes regular health screening for an early detection of diseases and their timely treatment. The authorities state health screening a crucial step while noting it to be important for every individual for any age.
