Jamaica: Roje Stona of Jamaica breaks records at Paris Olympics on Wednesday as he won a gold in men’s discus throw with record of 70.00 metres. However, dissatisfaction persists for Jamaicans as the nation will not be representing in the Men’s 200 m final at Paris Olympics.
Roje Stona, the star athlete brought the first gold to Jamaica in the field category. He showcased a great enthusiasm, throughout his performance and was followed by Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania with 69.97 metres. However, Australia ended up getting bronze as Mathew Denny ended up with 69.31 metres.
Stona following his win stated the it as a special night emphasizing that, this is what he wanted since a while and when it actually happened, he is feeling over the moon. Stona also mentioned that he had no pressure for a win at Olympics while noting, “I am already in the top eight, hence I had nothing to lose”
“I’ve done some things that I didn’t know I was capable of doing. But I believed, and I also had faith, so I was in the moment and I enjoyed it,” he added.
On the flip side, Jamaica this year will not be represented at the Men’s 200 m final at Paris Olympics. This is important to noted that this is first time since 2004 that the country will not be showing up in the finale as the only candidate, Bryan Levell ended up seventh in his heat.
Bryan Levell, while performing at the heat clocked a time of 20.93 seconds, which was a huge disappointment for the athlete as his personal best is 19.97 seconds. This is to be noted that Levell entered semifinals through repechage round but failed to qualify to finals.
Notably, Roje Stona is just 25, and this win is a testament to his dedication towards his sport. People on Stona’s win are congratulating him throughout on social media, Simone White a facebook user stated “Congratulations Roje, I am super happy because I am shouting go over the 70 marks.
