Jamaica names 26-member squad for 2026 Carifta Triathlon Championships in Bermuda

Jamaica: A team of 26 individuals from the Jamaica Triathlon Association (JTA) is set to represent Jamaica at the Carifta Triathlon and Mixed Relay Championships, which will be held in Bermuda on October 24 and 25.

The team will consist of nine triathletes and 17 aqua athletes across several age groups. This expanded squad reflects the JTA’s attempt to recruit more athletes and create a stronger pathway for aquathlon to triathlon.

President of the Jamaica Triathlon Association Stacey Halsall-Peart said that the association’s development gained momentum after the island’s participation at last year’s Carifta games held in Tobago.

The 2026 squad was chosen after the JTA’s Carifta Trials held on July 19. The trails were the only qualifying criteria for the national team with the athletes being measured against the standards set according to their Carifta performances.

Preparation for Bermuda started shortly after selection. The athletes have been involved in a compulsory 11-week Sunday training session that is aimed at developing the skills necessary for competing in races.

According to the National Coach, Natasha Cameron, the first stage of the training was aimed at swim-bike-run “brick” sessions. The training later progressed to longer race simulating training to prepare them for transitions and running after biking while fatigued.

“The goal is to make sure there are no surprises on race day, and that the athletes arrive prepared for what they will face,” Cameron said.

Natasha Cameron will lead the team during its final preparations and competition in Bermuda, while Noelle Brown will serve as the team's manager.

The Jamaica Triathlon Association has received sponsorship from the Jamaica Olympic Association, Sports Development Foundation and Advanced Integrated Systems. LASCO also assisted with hydration for the athletes during the trials.

The Bermuda championships will provide Jamaica’s new triathletes and aqua athletes with a chance to race against other athletes from the Caribbean region prior to the hosting of Carifta 2027 in Jamaica.
