Grenada sets November 5 election as NDC and NNP prepare for national vote

Grenada will hold general elections on November 5, with nominations set for October 15 as the ruling NDC and opposition NNP prepare to contest all 15 elected seats.

Grenada: General elections will be held on November 5, 2026, with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell announcing the date after Parliament was dissolved on October 2.

The election will determine all 15 elected seats in Grenada's House of Representatives, with a party needing at least eight seats to secure a parliamentary majority.

Nomination Day is set for October 15, when candidates will submit their nomination papers. A special polling day for police officers is scheduled for November 2, three days before the main election.

Supervisor of Elections Arthur Pierre signed the notice two days before Prime Minister Mitchell officially announced the election date. The Parliament dissolved on October 2 , 2026 and the date of election was officially announced by the PM on Sunday, October 4.

Grenada’s constitution states that Parliament shall run for five years, unless dissolved on recommendation of the Prime Minister earlier. “Once Parliament is dissolved, the writ for holding elections will be put in place by Governor-General,” Mitchell told voters during his national address on October 4. With this, the voter registration is closed.The National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed power on 23 June 2022, winning nine out of 15 seats. The rest of the seats were won by NNP.

The state will continue to function despite the dissolution of Parliament. With the dissolution of Parliament, the political landscape of Grenada has heated up. All the parties are presenting their respective vision of how they will lead the country.

Grenada is a three-island Eastern Caribbean state having a 15-seat House of Representatives. King Charles III is head of the state, represented by a governor-general. As per Grenada's constitution, elections to the Parliament have to be conducted within 3 months from dissolution. Ongoing issues include corruption, discrimination against LGBT+ people.

The Supervisor of Elections and Parliamentary Election Office shall provide details regarding polling stations, election guidelines and voting procedure soon as told by Prime Minister in his national address.

The current elections are about if the incumbent Prime Minister will get a second term in office or not. There are 15 elected seats in the House of Representatives out of which 8 seats are needed to secure a majority. Although there are numerous parties in Grenada, the politics is dominated by two parties NDC and NNP. The Prime Minister has urged every eligible voter to vote in large numbers.
