Grenada: The delegation of Grenada is all set to kickstart its campaign at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on September 4, 2024, with the women’s shot-put event. Ishona Charles will represent the country in the shot put F46 and play to win the first medal.
She will further participate in the Javelin F46 on September 6, 2024, and represent Grenada at the event. The second participant for the Paralympics will be Tyler Smith for the country who will compete in the men’s shot put F63 on September 7, 204.
Ishona Charles will face strong competition from a field of 12 competitors with Japan’s Saito Yukiko who has recorded the best pre-game throw of 12.47 metres. The second best in the category will come from China named Zhang Jiamin who has the capacity to throw the shot put around 11.46 metres.
Charles who throws over 8 metres in the shot put is eyeing to produce a record throw to give herself a chance to win the first medal for Grenada. After reaching Paris, she participated and engaged in pre-competitive preparation which was facilitated by their coach Bassanio Nicholas.
Charles will face second competition in Paralympics on Friday in the women’s javelin F46 and represent Grenada in two back-to-back events.
Her fellow competitor Tyler Smith who is the bronze medalist in the 2023 Junior Commonwealth Games will compete in the men’s shot put F63 on September 7, 2024. He has also been practicing for her event at Paris and preparing for the victory in the Paralympics.
Grenada Athletetic Champions have extended wishes to the athletes for the Paris Paralympics and asked the people to support both of them.
The Paralympics are currently underway in Paris and kickstarted on August 28, 2024. As of now, China has dominated the medal table after six days of competition and won a total of 87 medals. It has included 43 Gold, 30 Silver and 14 Bronze.
It is followed by Great Britain with 54 medals including 29 Gold, 15 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals. The United States of America secured the third position in the games with 42 medals including 13 Gold, 19 Silver and 10 Bronze.
