Saint Lucia: Barbados Tridents defeated Saint Lucia Kings by nine runs at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on August 16. This marked their second straight victory in the 2026 Caribbean Premier League. They bagged this major victory after defending 177 in the match that was shortened to 18 overs because of rain. Saint Lucia Kings chose to bowl first and finished on 168 for seven in reply. Barbados’ batting and disciplined bowling helped them achieve their second win.
The match was delayed and then reduced from 20 overs to 18 overs per side because of the rain. Making a good use of the shortened innings, Quinton de Kock scored 38 from 15 balls before getting dismissed.
Sherfane Rutherford also produced an exceptional performance for Barbados. He scored 61 from 31 balls and recorded his second consecutive half century in the tournament. His inning helped the team reach 177 for five from their 18 overs.
Ackeem Auguste led Saint Lucia’s chase as he scored 63 from 34 balls. Roston Chase also made 34 from 21 balls. But Barbados kept on taking important wickets keeping the required scoring rate under pressure.
Gudakesh Motie and Mujeeb Ur Rahman took five wickets between them. Even though Auguste performed well and scored strong innings, Saint Lucia could only reach 168 for seven from their 18 overs. They were nine runs short of Barbados’ target.
Before their second major victory of the tournament, Barbados first won against Jamaica Kingsmen at Sabina Park in Kingston on August 11.
Barbados posted 206 for three in that match, with Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford sharing a 93-run partnership. Quinton de Kock scored 42, while Zachary Carter made his debut at 19 years by making 27 from 15 balls.
Jamaica’s chase suffered an early setback as they fell to 12 for three. But Andre Russell brought them back as he scored 68 from 38 balls, including nine sixes. Jamaica finished on 201 for nine, five runs short of the target as Russell and Vitel Lawes scored 69 runs.
Barbados Tridents have made an exceptional start to their 2026 CPL campaign after winning two matches. The team will continue to build on the momentum as the tournament continues.
