The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued an effective Flash flood warning considering heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon.
The met department stated that the conditions are expected to worsen over time as tropical waves from the Atlantic region are moving towards the Caribbean causing adversity in the weather conditions.
The low-lying areas including the vicinity of Western and Northwestern Districts are expected to hit the most damage from the developing climatic conditions.
According to the BMS, unstable conditions with light winds and intense heat in the daytime are among the key factors contributing to the severity of the climate in the region.
Cloudy periods with scattered moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, resulting in rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches (50mm to 100mm).
In addition to this, the BMS is also closely monitoring the development of the predicted tropical wave, which is currently located in the Central Tropical Atlantic nearly 1080 km east of Barbados.
The tropical wave remains a topic of concern as it is continuously progressing and is rumored to develop into a tropical storm in the coming week.
According to reports from the Met Department, the developing system is expected to reach the Eastern Caribbean as soon as Monday, 2nd September. Upon arrival, the tropical development will bring along moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorm activities will likely happen.
Light winds are predicted to continue till the end of weekend and may result a wide fluctuations in the temperatures all across the island nation.
Due to the rising climatic concerns, the chances for potential flash flooding remain higher for the coming days indicating the necessity to exercise crucial precautionary measures during the time.
In regard to the developing weather conditions, the BMS has urged the residents to stay inside until anything is necessary. BMS further urged that locals should follow the DEM’s instructions and keep an eye on the BMS, DEM, and GIS websites, as well as their social media accounts and local media networks, for updates.
