Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested to install new infrastructure at Cayon High School in St Kitts and Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis: Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been invested to install new infrastructure at Cayon High School. The minor remedial work is underway in the school to convert it in a state of readiness for the commencement of the 2024-2025 academic year from Monday.
As of now, a significant amount has been allocated to replace doors, windows, railings and to rid the school of mold. New doors and windows have been installed and the painting of certain areas to remove graffiti has also been completed.
New railings were installed, the bathroom facilities were modernized and the majority of the school was outfitted with new furniture.
It is aimed at bringing new infrastructure to the school and providing modern facilities to the students and teachers, according to the government officials.
New furniture has also been installed in the school for teachers and students with the intent to provide favourable environment. The investment has also been made for the procurement and installation of the new furniture at the school.
As per the official report, the renovation work will continue at the school in the coming weeks.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also visited the school to assess all these construction works and said that the work has been progressing at a rapid pace. He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education- Dr Geoffrey Hanely who also shared updates on several other projects for the education sector.
PM Drew also analyzed the work being done to get the school ready for the new school year so that it could contribute efficiently to the education sector. An update about the investment in the school has also been provided by the prime minister during his tour to the school.
He announced that this is the largest sum invested at any one time at the Cayon High School in over a decade. PM Drew added that they will continue their investment towards the education sector so that the modern and advance education could be provided to the students across St Kitts and Nevis.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education hosted a ceremony to provide update on the commencement of the New Academic Year 2024-2025. The ceremony was named as “Back-To-School” which was held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
Deputy PM Dr Hanley lauded the teachers and the staff for their roles in educating and shaping the futures of the children of St Kitts and Nevis.
In the recent years, significant investments have been made to enhance the education sector in St Kitts and Nevis including the introduction of the free tuition at CFBC for the students. Besides this, the students’ loans have also been reduced from 9% to 5% at the Development Bank.
The government also announced the removal of the import duties on school supplies and handed over vouchers of $250 to the students at the schools.
Scholarships have also been provided to the students to attend Southern University in the USA. The plans have also been made to construct a brand-new Basseterre High School as the design processing has been initiated.
