Grenada: The Prime Minister of Grenada took an astounding decision as he removed the Minister of Youth and Sports, Jonathan LaCrette from his cabinet amid trust issues towards him. The empty position will now be occupied by Education Minister, David Andrew.
The PM stated that this exchange took place during the weekly cabinet meeting which happened on Wednesday. The minister addressed this meet after he hosted the 47th regular meeting of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders held in the island between July 28-30.
In light of the incident, PM Dickon Mitchell stated that “Trust and Confidence” doesn’t exist between them any longer. He emphasized that LaCrette was involved in a several different events in the last two years that were not for the best of cabinet nor the people.
However, PM Mitchell confirmed that there is no personal rivalry or issue between both of them. He also stated that LaCrette doesn’t even have any personal grudges with the ministries of the government.
The PM expressed his gratitude towards LaCrette for his services during his time in the ministry. He further made it clear that if he loses trust on any of the members of his cabinet then he will take off all the duties from that particular minister in a response to create a true and diligent ministry.
Notably, LaCrette will still be the part of the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The PM has also shared that he will continue to work with LaCrette as he is a part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This is to be noted that LaCrette failed to win the St George Northwest Constituency in the elections of June 2022, however he was appointed as a Senator later. He served as the Minister of Health initially, but during the reshuffling of cabinet which took place this January, he was assigned the duties as a Minister of Youth and Sports.
This decision by the Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell was highly applauded by the citizens for the PM’s honesty towards his duties.
