Trinidad: Police arrests suspect involved in major robbery incident

The police officials in Trinidad and Tobago held a male suspect who was reportedly involved in a robbery incident. The suspect is accused of stealing multiple couriers and was held by the team on Monday, 12 August.

The information about the criminal offense was disclosed by the police authority after the arrest on 14 August. The suspect in the courier robbery case was held by the law enforcement unit dedicated to the Central Division of Trinidad.

The accused individual is mentioned in the police report as a 21-year-old man who is a local resident of a settlement in Couva. The suspect was held by the police authority during an exercise based on intelligence, which was dedicated to catching the culprit of the reported robbery case.

It is known that police department were having six complaints of same kind which they received from multiple online stores and couriers.

Reportedly, all the cases were observed in the Freeport district of Trinidad which were recorded in the dates of February 2024 to August 2024. During these months, various businesses became the victim of the unlawful act and reported the loss of their couriers.

It is mentioned that stealing a wide assortment of packages, which were containing valuables, including cash. The police department took charge of the matter of continuous stealing in the same manner in the region of their responsibility. The investigation led the police team to the suspected man.

The assigned police team in the courier robbery case of Freeport found that all the incidents contained the same modus operandi. The description of the suspect and contact number used to place online orders was also found same in the investigation.

As per the reports on the Freeport courier robbery case, officers from the Central Division Gang Unit and the Freeport Criminal Investigations Department took charge. The operation was launched to catch the suspect on Monday which ended with a arrest.

It is understood that the exercise was stretched between the hours of 01:00 pm to 04:30 pm. Along with the arrest of the suspect in his early twenties, the officers also seized many valuable items.

The successful exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Simon, Superintendent Glodon, Inspector Estrada and Inspector Sylvan. The action was taken by the police officers of the Central Division under the supervision of Sargeant Harriot. The proceedings in the case is ongoing.
